All higher organisms are made up from the same basic elements. It therefore follows that fish food, which is manufactured mainly from living organisms (usually fish in the case of dry foods, such as flake, tablet, or pellet foods) contains almost all the nutrients required by plants as well as fish. Most of these elements are excreted by the fish and then become available to plants as nutrients. Many fish foods are particularly high in phosphate and potassium, and in a well-fed aquarium, may provide enough of these nutrients
