Budding of new polyps off the stalk of corallimorphs has been observed in Discosoma spp. and Amplexidiscus spp. This form of reproduction can be stimulated by an injury or tear in the stalk, but it also occurs spontaneously, independent of injury. It is most typical for very large polyps to employ this reproductive method. The resulting offspring may remain attached to the stalk or share the same pedal disc for months, it may twist and become severed from the parent, or the parent oral disc may twist and become severed from its pedal disc, leaving the new bud on the disproportionately large stalk. The bud may also "migrate" downwards and divide from the parent at the pedal disc. To the best of our knowledge this method of asexual reproduction for corallimor-pharia has not been reported in the scientific literature.
