This rare variety of Alcyonium forms dark brown encrusting mats with short soft branches that are beautifully fluid in strong water motion, it is similar to low encrusting Cladiella species, but does not become stiff nor blush white when the polyps close. J. Sprung

Natural Habitat: Alcyonium occur most prolifically on reefs in lagoons or calm backreef areas, often in turbid water.

Aquarium Care: Alcyonium species are quite hardy in captivity and they ship very well, so they have been popular with reef aquarists since the earliest availability of live corals for aquariums. Several very similar species are known by the common name kColt Coral" or "Cladiella," and they grow very quickly in captivity An imported colony of just 10 cm height may proliferate into a 35 cm tall bush in about six months.
