Natural Habitat: Rare ciyptic inhabitant of Caribbean reefs. Found on the underside of ledges, growing on coralline algae or sponges. Usually occurs as a solitary polyp or at most just a few-polyps. A large group of clonemates colonizing a surface of several square feet or metres seldom occurs with this species, though sometimes they can be abundant in shallow seagrass beds.

Aquarium Care: Easy to care for, as with most Discosoma. Adapts to strong illumination but prefers moderate illumination. Tolerates strong water motion but does best under low water velocity conditions. Feeding is not necessary, but D. neglect a does capture prey. Not all food items offered will be taken, but in our experience worms (such as blackworm or chopped earthworm) placed on the oral disc will elicit a feeding response. Shrimp is also taken voraciously. Feeding promotes growth and asexual reproduction. The oral disc will cup up and close over the food like a purse. The response time is fast, as in Amplexidiscus. We haven't seen it happen, but this species may also trap and eat fish.

Reproduction: Discosoma neglect a readily divides by pedal laceration. Transverse fission is occasional under strong water motion. Longitudinal fission is possible, but uncommon. Sexual reproduction is not reported in aquaria.

Fish are generally easy to keep although do they need quite a bit of attention. Puppies and kittens were the typical pet but now fish are becoming more and more frequent in house holds.
