It is also possible for anemones to wander over the wall of an overflow drain, plug up the drain or sufficiently block the flow of water to cause an overfilling of the aquarium and a small flood on the floor. This is less likely than the powerhead accident, but it is possible. One can prevent this occurrence by either avoiding an overflow altogether in the design or by having the overflow located someplace where the anemone can't possibly wander (a real challenge!). One can also create a baffle from mesh material (black DLS for example) such that the anemone cannot completely cover the overflow. In large aquaria if the overflow screen is broad enough the risk of the anemone blocking it is minimized.

Another potential obstacle for sea anemones is submersible heaters. If an anemone attaches its pedal disc to the heater, it cannot quickly let go when the heating element comes on. The resulting burn, aside from being painful no doubt, is likely also fatal. Heaters should be located in the sump, in external heater
