Polyp anatomy

True sea anemones are solitary polyps. Many species reproduce asexually, resulting in large stands of adjacent clones, but these stands of identical individuals are not colonies in the strict sense because thev are not interconnected.

The body of an anemone can be thought of as a hollow tube, closed at one end and open at the other, kind of like a sock. The major portion of the sea anemone is formed by the column, which has at its aboral end a flattened pedal disc for attaching to the substrate, and at its other end the oral disc bearing numerous hollow tentacles.
