Distinguishing Characteristics: Sea plumes are most often shaped like feathers, or groups of feathers, but there are a few-species (seldom available to hobbyists) that do not have this shape. The most common species available to hobbyists are P. americana, P. acerosa, and P. elisabethae. Pale to deep purple with brown polyps is the usual colour. Pseudopterogorgia elisabethae,, the so-called "Purple Frilly" gorgonian, is nearly always a lovely deep purple with pale brown to almost white polyps.
