A built-in aquarium should have a capacity of at least 100 gallons. Anything smaller is hardly worth it, considering the cost of building a new interior wall or cutting through an existing one. You will need at least 4 x 8 feet of floor space. The aquarium is essentially enclosed in a closet. The tank itself will be up to 2 x 6 feet, assuming you use the largest available stock size, holding about 200 gallons. Of course, custom tanks can be any size, but I will discuss what might be possible as a do-it-yourself project on a relatively limited budget.
